Dont You Wish You Could Go Back?

“It seemed like just yesterday I celebrated my 24th birthday”, Chioma mused.” I can’t believe I’m 35 now! Where did the time go? What have I achieved in the past 11 years? It seems like such a blur.”

Don't you wish you could just jump into a time machine and turn back the hands of time?. I won’t even lie, I’ve asked myself the same questions.
But while we cannot go back in time to do what we wanted to do 15 or even 5 years ago, the truth is that we have the gift called NOW!
There is no better time. Do you have the courage to pick yourself up and start? Then do it. If you don’t, then you need to reach out. You must consciously live your life in colour. Put shades of grey in the background. Come alive again. You can do this!

The Power of "Mother"

Yesterday as I sat in my office, I happened to take a look outside to see the people walking by from one office to the other. A particular crowd struck me.
I work in the court and it is not strange to see young men dressed in green shorts and shirts (or women in green dresses) walking by; inmates of the Nigerian Prisons, I mean.

What struck me though was how peculiar this crowd was. They were a group of young men, about 15 in number, aged between 21 and 33. They were escorted by the prison warders, and a number of middle aged women (clad in wrappers, blouses and headties). It became clear to me that these women are the mothers of the young men who obviously were charged for a criminal offence. I did not see anyone who could pass for the fathers of these young men.

Now I’m not trying to compare mothers and fathers; by no means. What struck me was the commitment of these women to their sons. They were not ashamed to walk with their sons even though so many “wondering” eyes must have been on them. Of course society judges you once you’re seen in that green outfit…. But these mothers did not mind. They walked with their sons, talking to them and encouraging them.

Just last week, we celebrated yet another mothers’ day and many people made comments asking why there are so many mothers’ day celebrations. My view? We do not even celebrate our mothers enough.
A mother generally will stay committed to her child, no matter how bad or good that child is. If the child is a menace, she will cry and pray that the child “receives sense” and changes from those bad ways. She will scold, flog, and do anything to change that child; and if the child is good, she will strive to make the child better.

As I looked at the young men, as they were escorted back to the vehicle that brought them to court, and as I looked at the mothers, I knew that if it were possible, they would take the place of their sons.

That is the power of “Mother”; and that is why most people will testify that their mothers are the best in the whole wide world.

Happy New Year 2017!

Hey everyone! Seems like it was just yesterday that I was saying happy new year and that was 2014.

Well, its 2017 now, so happy new year! Even though we're in May? Yes, because it has been ages. A lot has happened in the space of 3 years, I must say. I could come up with a thousand excuses why I've not been blogging but I think I'd rather save you an earful.

I'm back now and my reasons are better streamlined so I believe this blog will be better. Did you notice that I opted for a more simplistic design? It is said that less is always more.
I also deleted majority of my previous posts because I want my blogging to be more interactive and personal.

So! Welcome to Living Colours Media. This blog has come a long way I tell you. And I believe its going to even greater heights.

My take away thought for today is precisely what I've captured in the banner above. Now is indeed the right time to start. If you failed in the past, pick yourself up and start again. Heck, by failing, you've learnt one way of not doing something; or you've learnt a better method of doing that thing.

So here's to your success and mine. Let's get our dreams rolling. Start now! I'll talk to you again soon.

Happy New Year!!

It is indeed a new year filled with opportunities and bounties, and it is with pleasure that I join my voice to say welcome to 2014! This year promises to be a fantastic one and The Knight'sLaurel will be better. Its my solemn promise.

However, while this year is a great year indeed, sacrifices and prices have to be made and paid for your greatness to truly materialise. Hard work and diligence are the watchwords this year... A never ending desire to rise through the odds to improve yourself.  It is a journey for the strong hearted. I am willing to develop that heart to succeed. Are you? Then lets take a journey together to achieve this greatness for indeed it is not a myth. So many have achieved it and without any doubt, you and I can too. There will be challenges and discouragements along the way, but we can overcome. We can achieve!

Are you ready? Its a year of ruthless execution, as a friend of mine always says. Start now and do not relent! Welcome to 2014!!

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie Unveils New Book.

Award winning author, Chimamanda Adichie has unveiled her book titled "Americanah".

Americanah is a story of love and race centered around a young man and woman from Nigeria who face difficult choices and challenges in the countries they come to call home.

As teenagers in a Lagos secondary school, Ifemelu and Obinze fall in love. Their Nigeria is under military dictatorship, and people are leaving the country if they can. Ifemelu—beautiful, self-assured—departs for America to study. She suffers defeats and triumphs, finds and loses relationships and friendships, all the while feeling the weight of something she never thought of back home: race. Obinze—the quiet, thoughtful son of a professor—had hoped to join her, but post-9/11 America will not let him in, and he plunges into a dangerous, undocumented life in London.
Years later, Obinze is a wealthy man in a newly democratic Nigeria, while Ifemelu has achieved success as a writer of an eye-opening blog about race in America. But when Ifemelu returns to Nigeria, and she and Obinze reignite their shared passion—for their homeland and for each other—they will face the toughest decisions of their lives.
Fearless, gripping, at once darkly funny and tender, spanning three continents and numerous lives, Americanah is a richly told story set in today’s globalized world: Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s most powerful and astonishing novel yet.

Chimamanda is also the author of Half of a Yellow Sun and Purple Hibiscus
